Implementing Mind Breaks

At Colegio Internacional Aravaca, we have embraced the Mindful Minds program as a way to nurture and care for mental health from an early age.

During these first few months, I’ve personally visited each classroom to talk to our students about the program and explain why we’re introducing the habit of Mind Breaks.

As the name suggests, Mind Breaks are short mental pauses. They last between 2 and 3 minutes and will take place three times a day. These brief sessions have brought a bit of everything: laughter as we practiced breathing together (something completely normal and expected!), many focused and attentive faces, knowing smiles as students recognized everyday situations… But most importantly, a shared commitment to working together to build this new habit.

Our goal is for these pauses to gradually become a natural part of our daily routine, rather than just “another thing to do.” A few minutes of mindful breathing is not wasted time — it’s a long-term investment in wellbeing, focus, and emotional balance.

If you have any questions or would like to learn how to practice this at home, please don’t hesitate to contact me. I’ll be more than happy to help!
