As part of their Unit of Inquiry, Year 6 students have shown that learning goes far beyond the classroom. Through their reflections and entirely on their own initiative, students felt the need to take action to help others, especially people and organisations that carry out essential social work.Students came up with different initiatives to support care homes, the Food Bank and people who may be experiencing loneliness, a topic that is particularly meaningful during the Christmas season. From the very beginning, they demonstrated great sensitivity and creativity, proposing workshops and activities designed not only to help, but also to accompany others and share quality time together. One of the most enriching experiences was the visit to the care home closest to the school, where students and residents enjoyed several workshops together, such as Christmas Zumba, cooking and traditional games. These moments of intergenerational connection created meaningful bonds and left a lasting impression on both the residents and our students. In addition, a Food Bank collection was organised, along with the creation of posters and other materials to raise awareness and share the experience with the rest of the school community. These initiatives reflect how our students have understood the importance of empathy, solidarity and social commitment, becoming true agents of change within their community.Valme.
